President Tebboune Orders Formal Integration of Small Importers into Trade System

Algiers: The president of the Republic ordered Sunday, at a Council of Ministers meeting, the regularisation of the situation of young, individual small importers, through their integration into the formal foreign trade system.

According to Algeria Press Service, President Tebboune directed a comprehensive regularisation process to protect these young and small individual importers by incorporating them into the formal foreign trade framework. This move aims to allow them to benefit from the legal advantages associated with auto-entrepreneurship.

The president further instructed that these importers be granted the status of economic agents. This change is intended to enable them to enjoy social and commercial benefits, providing an alternative to their current illegal standing. Many of these importers have faced issues such as the seizure of their imported goods and social instability due to the loss of their limited capital.

To address these challenges, President Tebboune ordered the Prime Minister to urgently establish a commission. This body will be responsible for defining the mechanisms of activity for young individuals who invest their modest capital to fulfill basic needs through limited imports.

Additionally, the president instructed that the commission, led by the Prime Minister, should detail the list of products that these young importers are allowed to import. This measure aims to ensure their business’s sustainability, in line with existing legal and tax regulations, as emphasized in the statement.
