Barcelona: The cultural synergy between Morocco and Spain helps nurture a stronger bond between their peoples and deepen the ties between two neighboring and friendly countries, according to Xavier Marc©, Cultural Affairs Officer at the Barcelona City Council. Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation in Barcelona of the 28th Fez Festival of World Sacred Music program (June 16-24), Marc© highlighted the significant role of artistic proximity in enhancing cultural connections between the two nations.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Marc© pointed out that musical traditions such as flamenco and Andalusian music convey a shared heritage, reflecting common roots and a deeply Mediterranean sensibility. He remarked that the artistic richness of the Fez Festival resonates within Spanish musical culture, further cementing the cultural ties that bind Morocco and Spain.
The involvement of Spanish singer Miguel Poveda, an iconic figure on the contemporary flamenco scene, in the Fez Festival, was noted by Marc© as a prime example of the vibrant cultural bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean. This participation underscores the deep artistic connection and mutual appreciation between the two countries.
Marc© also mentioned that Casablanca will be the guest of honor at Barcelona’s 2024 festivities. This opportunity is expected to foster the development of joint artistic projects between Moroccan and Catalan creators, further strengthening the cultural synergy and collaboration between the two regions.
