CAIRO, Egypt’s President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim voiced Monday concern about the danger of expanding violence in the Middle East region owing to the military escalation in the Gaza Strip.
This came during a meeting held between Al-Sisi and Ibrahim to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip, Egypt’s presidency said in a statement.
The two sides reiterated their rejection of the forced displacement of the Palestinian people from the Strip, it added.
They also agreed on the need to coordinate efforts to halt military escalation in the Palestinian territories and reach lull, in addition to providing required protection to Palestinian civilians, it said.
In addition, President Al-Sisi and his guest underlined the necessity of providing safe and urgent aid access to Gaza, it said, indicating that Malaysia’s Premier extolled Egypt’s intensive efforts as a beacon of the Islamic world, especially through the role of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.
The only way to get out of this conflict is the international community’s cooperation to find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause topped with a two-state solution, in line with international legitimacy’s resolutions in a way that preserves the legitimate rights of Palestinians, it pointed out.
The talks between the two sides dealt with sharing visions on the most prominent regional and international issues of common concern, including combating terrorism, it said.
The discussions further covered the developments in the region, mainly the difficult conditions in the Gaza Strip, it elaborated.
President Al-Sisi reviewed the results emerged from the discussions at the Cairo Peace Summit held last Saturday.
The two sides commended the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, it said, stressing furthering bilateral cooperation, especially at the economic and commercial levels and joint investments.
It explained that cooperation between the two sides included the domains of industry, communications and information technology, in addition to infrastructure and food security.
Finally, the two sides agreed to give strong impetus to various cooperation frameworks in the next period. (end) mm.hm
