The joint legislative committee on restructuring government subsidies held a meeting co-chaired by Abdulnabi Salman, the First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, the First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council.
The joint committee welcomed the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to allocate an additional budget for financing solutions and alternative options for those who have applied for housing units in 2004 and prior.
The committee stressed that government support programmes reflect the existing cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, which work jointly to maintain living standards for Bahraini citizens.
The meeting discussed ideas and recommendations which reflect the keenness that the support reaches those who deserve it by applying efficient mechanisms and optimal use of resources.
They also discussed the principles and foundations of the committee’s work that would enhance the efficiency of direct government subsidies, that keep pace with economic conditions, and achieve a decent life for citizens who deserve support.
This is based on a database of modern and documented data, which ensures the success of this goal in light of the available capabilities, which will be discussed at the next joint meeting with the government.
The proposals submitted by the members of the Shura Council and the Representatives Council in the joint committee regarding the basic principles presented by the government were also discussed.
They agreed on the final version of several decisions that would preserve the rights of people with limited income and contribute to raising their standard of living.
