The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, and the Minister of Sustainable Development, Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr. Rola Dashti.
The meeting was on the sidelines of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s participation at the United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023, currently held at the UN Headquarters in New York, to present the country’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the progress made towards achieving the sustainable development goals and accelerating the realisation of the 2030 Agenda.
Al Romaihi shared that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning pursues innovative policies in partnership with the private sector, geared towards providing immediate and sustainable housing services to citizens, through numerous solutions.
This includes the Housing Financing Programmes and the Government Land Development Programme, highlighting that these policies have enabled thousands of Bahraini families to obtain adequate housing within a short period of time.
Alkhulaif reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s unwavering commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and highlighted the Kingdom’s wide-ranging efforts to integrate the 2030 Agenda into its Government Plan and all ancillary programmes and strategies, whilst monitoring the indicators to evaluate and review progress towards achieving the SDGs.
Dr .Dashti expressed her support to Bahrain’s remarkable efforts in accelerating the realisation of the 2030 Agenda and reiterated the ESCWA’s keenness on coordinating with other UN bodies to present all possible means of support to these efforts.
