Finance Minister, Laaziz Faid, will travel on Wednesday to Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), to participate in the 58th Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group.
The delegation led by Faid will attend sessions of the Bank’s Board of Governors, including the review and approval of the Bank’s activity reports, as well as the adoption of its annual financial statements, according to a ministry statement.
The Board of Governors will discuss the Bank’s priorities which include the challenge of financing low-carbon development for green, equitable and sustainable growth in line with climate objectives, as well as the need to place climate adaptation at the heart of economic policies.
Similarly, the Council will address the need for Africa to realise its agricultural potential in order to enhance its food security.
A final session will be devoted to the adoption of the official reports and the reading of the final communiqué to sanction the work of the 2023 Annual Meetings.
The Minister of Finance will take the opportunity of his presence at these Meetings to meet with his African counterparts and heads of financial institutions, with a view to exchanging views on the evolution of the international economic situation and the prospects for global growth.
These meetings will also be opportunities to “explore new avenues of cooperation with our country in the many areas of economic and social development,” according to the ministry.
The 2023 AfDB Annual Meetings, which is being held on the theme “Mobilizing Private Sector Financing for Climate and Green Growth in Africa”, will be attended by a high-level representation, including heads of state and government, heads of international and regional institutions, non-governmental organizations and key private sector players.
