At least three people were killed and over 27 were injured on Wednesday in violent protests across Pakistan following the arrest of former prime minister and chief of the political party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan.
The spokesperson of the government-run Lady Reading Hospital in northern Peshawar city, Mohammad Asim told media that three dead bodies and 20 people with bullet injuries have been brought to the hospital in the past couple of hours.
He said the injured people received bullet wounds on their legs and hands, assuring that they were being provided first aid.
At least seven injured people were reportedly admitted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital. The protestors reportedly clashed with police and set fire to various buildings in Peshawar including the building of state-run Radio Pakistan.
All educational institutions across the country were shut down following the law and order situation.
Meanwhile, an accountability court Mohammad Bashir conducted the hearing of the case and announced an eight-day physical remand of the PTI Chief in the Qadir Trust corruption case. Moreover, The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said that internet services across the country will remain suspended for an indefinite period.
The telecommunication authority confirmed that the decision to block mobile broadband services was taken on the directives of the Ministry of Interior.
Moreover, the senior leaders of PTI including former foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and former finance minister Asad Umer were also arrested on Wednesday following the violent protests.
According to police, 1,050 people were arrested across Pakistan after the protests.
