CALI (Colombia) – Algerian walker Ismaïl Benhammouda has won a silver medal at the Under-20 World Championships currently underway in Cali (Colombia), after finishing second in the 10 kilometer/walk race, held on Friday.
Benhammouda completed the distance in 42:42.49″, thus placing himself between two Turks, in this case: Mazlum Demir, winner in 42:36.02″, and Yildiz Hayrettin, third in 43:07.95″.
Two other Algerian internationals are involved in the competition on this fifth day of the 2022 World Under-20s. This is Haïthem Chenitef, who will line up in the 2nd series of the 800 meter semi-final.
There will be three series in all, starting at 9:50 p.m. (Algerian time). The first two will qualify directly for the final, in addition to the two best times over all three heats.
The third and last Algerian concerned by the competition, this Friday, will be the young Wissal Harkas, who will enter the competition a little earlier than Chenitef, in the semi-finals of the triple jump. She will be called upon to make a leap of at least 13.15 meters, to hope to qualify for the final.
Algeria participates in these Worlds with a total of twelve athletes (10 Boys and 2 Girls). The competition, which started on August 1st in Cali, will end on the 6th of the same month.
